Break-even jobs calculator

See how many jobs you need per month to cover recurring expenses and reach a profit goal, based on average contribution per job.

Enter monthly numbers

Enter profit after the labour costs you've included, but before income taxes. Estimates assume an identical average contribution on every job.

How the calculation works

Contribution per job = sale price − variable expenses − labour costs. Jobs needed = round up ((fixed monthly costs + target profit) ÷ contribution per job). Weekly average uses 4.33 weeks per month.

For a business with seasonal work, refunds, cancellations or substantial unpaid administrative time, build extra capacity into the plan. This isn't a cash-flow forecast.

Use the job pricing calculator to test how different prices change your margin.
